The Survey of Industrial Archaeology of Nova Scotia (SIANS) is a program run by Industrial Heritage Nova Scotia to catalogue industrial heritage sites throughout the province. Visitors can search for sites based on a broad range criteria that includes name, county and category.
Enter your search criteria and click the Search button to display a list of matching SIANS sites. To create a list of all sites, leave the selection criteria blank. You can then select a site from the list and display detailed information about it.
Users of the SIANS Database are reminded that the Special Places Protection Act of Nova Scotia applies to sites in the database. The purpose of the Act is to:
"provide for the preservation, protection, regulation, exploration, excavation, acquisition and study of archaeological and historical remains and palaeontological sites which are considered important parts of the natural or human heritage of the Province. . . . No person shall carry out explorations or make excavations on any land in the Province, including land covered with water, for the purpose of seeking heritage objects, without a heritage research permit."
