Rock Quarry tools of the 19th and early 20th century

Here's a photo of the traditional "plug & feathers" tools used to crack apart the granite. A set of these tools were placed into each hole along the cut line. The feathers were first inserted into the hole and the plug was driven into the hole between the feathers. As the plugs were tapped into the holes along the crack line the granite would split apart.
